fishing under the covered bridge

with one comment

In the community where I live, there is one covered bridge, the Patrick Owens Bridge, otherwise known as Rusagonis River #2. At one time there were at least four covered bridges across the Rusagonis Stream.

~

The photo below was taken in 1964 and shows my husband as a boy, fishing under the covered bridge on the North Branch of the Rusagonis Stream. In the photo, he is fishing with a home-made pole. That bridge was gone by 1978 when I first moved to New Brunswick.

I have always loved covered bridges and I am pleased to announce that my new poetry book “in the shelter of the covered bridge” will be out later in 2017, published by Chapel Street Editions, Woodstock. The book is a compilation of my poetry about plants and animals living in the vicinity of some of the covered bridges in New Brunswick. The work was funded by artsnb and includes some of the poems that won the Alfred G Bailey Prize in the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick Writing Competition in 2016.

~

in the shelter of the covered bridge” will include poems about many of the covered bridges in the St. John River valley and is illustrated with my own pencil drawings. I’ll let you know as soon as it is available!

within easy reach – another chance to win a painting

with 5 comments

You will recall that earlier this month I held a draw to win the cover art for my book of poetry within easy reach. Carol Steel, a fellow blogger, was the winner of the painting !  http://carolsteel5050.blogspot.ca/

This is to remind you that I am holding a draw to win another painting — ‘berries and brambles’ (18”x 14”, acrylic, gallery edges, unframed). Anyone who has purchased my book from me or my publisher, Chapel Street Editions, has already been entered in the draw. This includes the blog comment folk who entered the earlier draw.

update: my book ‘within easy reach’

with 15 comments

Now that my book is available, I am lined up for some readings.  It’s the perfect time of year since people in New Brunswick are turning their attention to gathering fiddleheads, to gardening and to their preparations for strawberry season.

my poetry book – within easy reach

with 13 comments

My new book, within easy reach, is now available.

~

I would like to thank you, the readers of my blog (and my Facebook and Twitter friends), for all your interest and support since I began my blog in 2012! The blog has helped me along the way, developing ideas for my projects, giving me a place to try my poems on a reading audience and giving me a chance to read some beautiful poetry on the blogs I follow. I also love your ‘likes’ and comments.

~

I hope you will buy my book and enjoy reading my poems and seeing my drawings.

~

For the readers of my Blog, I am offering a chance to win the painting on the book’s cover!  My painting ‘brambles’ is painted in acrylics, size 10″ by 10″, with gallery edges. The painting is from a photograph of the blackberries growing on our lake property, the berries featured in the poem ‘berries in brambles’, one of the poems in the book.
