update: my book ‘within easy reach’

with 15 comments

Now that my book is available, I am lined up for some readings.  It’s the perfect time of year since people in New Brunswick are turning their attention to gathering fiddleheads, to gardening and to their preparations for strawberry season.

My book is available through my publisher Chapel Street Editions (www.chapelstreeteditions.com), at Westminster Books in Fredericton and at my readings.

Location, date and time of the readings:

  • Miramichi, Rodd Miramichi Hotel, Writer’s Federation of New Brunswick, WordSpring, book sale and readings May 27, 2016 (Friday) at 7:30.
  • Woodstock, L.P. Fisher Library, June 2, 2016 (Thursday) at 6:30.
  • Fredericton, Westminster Books, book launch with fellow poet Edith Miller, June 9, 2016 (Thursday) at 7:00.
  • Fredericton, York Regional Library, reading, last week in June, to be announced.

Remember, if you would like to be included in a draw for the painting on the cover of my book, you have until June 7, 2016 to enter.

To get your name in the draw, you have to do three things:

  1. Purchase my book through my publisher’s website  (www.chapelstreeteditions.com)
  2. Leave a comment on any of my Blogs (www.nichepoetryandprose.wordpress.com or www.janetims.com or www.janetimsdotcom.wordpress.com) with the words ‘within easy reach’ somewhere in the comment
  3. Be ready to send me, via email, a scan of your purchase receipt.

The cover painting ‘brambles’ is done in acrylics, size 10″ by 10″, with gallery edges.

  3. The book arrived in Island View this afternoon (Friday 27 May), same day as my cheque arrived in Woodstock. “Don’t ask … don’t tell … don’t worry!” I have read the Intros and the first ten pages. Lovely … in every way …

    • Hi Roger. I tried to capture the good and the bad of gathering wild foods, the sweetness along with the prickles! I trust your ear Roger so will be eager to hear what you think of them! Jane

      • First, the format: I have been used to seventeenth century Spanish manuscripts with the words all crammed in together. I love your use of space and structure: the drawings, space, the poems themselves set out as they are with differing structures, all suspended in space, and the open pages conveniently spaced to invite the read on and in. I am reading slowly and savoring. Clare meanwhile is down at the bottom of the garden saying: “I recognize this one and that one. They’re in Jane’s book.”

      • Hi Roger. Thank you to you and Clare. I hope people who read my book discover their own experiences in the poems. The reader-friendly layout of the book is the beautiful work of Brendan Helmuth who treats white space and each poem with honour! Jane

  4. I have tried your fiddleheads but probably did not know how to cook it right and it was a little bit slimy. Still I enjoyed it. I like trying foods that are truly local. In Malaysia, we have something similar called “pucuk paku” which we usually cook with a bit of chilli and coconut milk.

    • Fiddleheads are good steamed. Local food sometimes takes getting used to but is the most basic way to enjoy a culture!

  5. I sent my cheque in over a week ago and it hasn’t arrive yet! I think the dogs got hungry and stopped pulling the mail sled.

      • Yippee! It looks and sounds great. I am looking forward to reading it. Lots to learn, unless I am very much mistaken. I’ll try to make some of the readings, so you won’t be on your own. Make sure you communicate dates and times to FF and Odd Sundays etc. David will help you with that.
