drear November: feeding the birds

leave a comment »

I sat out on my chair on the deck today and realized, all the trees have lost their leaves, even most of our oaks. The only hold-outs are the tamarack which will soon start to release their leaves in an almost-steady amber-coloured rain of needles.

However, although most of the colour is gone, it is now bird feeding season! Today, I filled our two feeders in the yard, for the deer and the birds. We feed with mostly black sunflower seeds and smaller seeds for the finches.

I also put seeds in a pan on the corner of our back deck for the squirrel and more birds.

Now, I can watch the birds (and squirrels and deer) from my chair in the living room, or my chair on the deck, or as close as I can get!

Do you feed the birds and how early do you start to feed?

All my best,

Jane
