Today’s virtual biking trip took me toward the town of Downderry, along narrow roads lined with Western Gorse (Ulex gallii) in yellow bloom. Gorse grows on sunny sites with sandy soil and is common on the heathlands along Britain’s Atlantic coast. Before my virtual trips to France and England, I had heard of gorse but had never ‘seen’ it …

I saw a few farms along the way …

Best View: farmstead not far from Downderry … my skies are improving, don’t you think???

Hi Robin. Just when I think the skies are a breeze, the paint runs in a very unsky-like manner! Jane

I have seen gorse in bloom in Scotland and England along the coast, and it was really lovely! I later found out it was invasive…. 😦

Hi Lee. It just goes to show that beauty is sometimes not the main indicator of good! Hope you are having fun in Australia! Jane

Pastures and fields as far as the eye can see. But I guess the sun isn’t as strong up at that latitude so there might be less concern about finding a spot of shade…

Hi. There is always shade in those narrow spaces between hedgerows! The fields remind me a little of the Sussex area in New Brunswick, except the ocean is always nearby in Cornwall. Jane
