after a poetry reading
Why do you go to poetry readings? Is it because you are supporting a writing friend? Because you love poetry? Or because you search for the perfect poetic experience — the memorable reading of an unforgettable poem, expressive words you know you will always be able to summon. Have you ever left a poetry reading feeling renewed, animated, believing in the impossible?

I attend a lot of readings. I go to support my writing friends. I go because I love words and poetry. I also go because I long for the memorable. Occasionally, I will hear words, phrases, poems to thrill me for the rest of my life.

I have had many such experiences. I have been privileged to hear Roo Borson read her poem Grey Glove. I have heard Roger Moore read poems from his book Monkey Temple with his stirring Welsh accent. Years ago I heard a young Irish poet read her poem about a kettle boiling on the stove, and I have never forgotten her words even though I have forgotten her name.

Bailey Drive is a steep incline
for an out-of-shape heart
a pause returns the thud in ears
to chest where it needs to be, a moment
to see maples on the Aitken House lawn
animated by wind, as metaphor for adrenaline rush
of words

as trees send Tesla coil sparks into blue sky
from trunks constrained by building
and sidewalks, to branches and twigs
unfettered, plasma filaments bloom
on fractal paths

another pulse, trunk to bud-tips
and another, signals up and outward
heart slows and holds in place
lightning throb in continuum of space

Reading at Westminster Books, Fredericton
Looking for something interesting to do on Thursday evening this week? Bring your imaginations and curiosity to enjoy an hour of readings and refreshments at Westminster Books.

I will be reading from my new book “Meniscus: Crossing The Churn”, a science-fiction adventure. And Zach Hapeman will read his quirky, sometimes sinister, poems for the young at heart. Zach is the author of the poetry collection “A Crack in the Door”.
~
At the reading we will have:
Gel-head punch – green like the transparent aliens on the planet Meniscus!
Life-sized stand-ups of a Gel-head and a Dock-winder, another alien on Meniscus.
A bit of ‘beelwort’ to ‘slip into your pocket’ (don’t worry, it’s only cardboard!!!) – these will be used for three prize draws during the evening.
Prizes include a small but charming painting called “alien moons” and an adventure game called “Forbidden Desert”.

Hoping to see you there!

As you can see, the Sackville reading will include two other poets whom I admire, Edith Miller and Marilyn Lerch!

At the reading I will be raffling one of my berry-picking paintings. Everyone who buys a copy of ‘within easy reach’ during the evening will be entered to win a draw for the painting ‘blackberry afternoon’, acrylic, gallery edges (unframed), 10″ by 12″

Hi Everyone.
I am happy to let you know about an upcoming reading event!
The reading will take place on August 25 (Thursday) at the Attic Owl Reading Series in Moncton (Café C’est la Vie) at 7 PM. I will be reading from my book within easy reach. Novelist Elaine McCluskey (http://www.elainemccluskey.ca/) and musicians Travis Furlong & Dave Smith will also be there!

This is my second reading at the Attic Owl. On January 28, 2016 Carol Steel, Lee Thompson and I shared the stage. I know the crowd is attentive and the food is so good!

Hope you can drop by to listen and say hello!
