morning chorus

with 11 comments

This morning it began at 5:02. First the relentless delirious Robin.

Cheerio, Cheerie, Cheer-up … Robin

Oh dear Canada, Canada, Canada … White throated sparrow

Whee, whee, whee, wheezie … Black-throated green warbler

Ah-ah-rooo … Local rooster

Teacher, teacher, teacher … Ovenbird

Tweet-terreet-terreet-tereee … Goldfinch

All happy to greet the day.

Now 5:42

  1. Love the painting, Jane! It’s amazing how sunrises can seem to light the woods on fire, and you captured that sensation.

This spring I’ve been learning about catbirds and their many calls. We have a pair visiting our suet feeders and I had never seen any before this.

    • Thanks! I’ve never seen a catbird, but it says they are found up here. As for the painting, it was hard to avoid making it look like woods on fire and I’m not sure I succeeded but it can be whatever the viewer sees! Jane

  2. Love the painting, Jane. It’s beautiful. 🙂 You’ve helped me identify one of the birds I hear frequently around here. The ovenbird.

    • I learned three new calls this year. The ovenbird was one. A friend helped me by just telling me what she was hearing. Then you can check it out on the Audubon site. The neat thing, I put it in a poem a few years back and can finally go in and add the name of the bird! Oven bird nest is a phenomenon!

    • Hi. Not really serious about chasing down rare birds. My husband and I go ‘chasing’ about once a year. Last year it was for a Snowy Owl down on Grand Lake Meadows. A few years ago we found a Glossy Ibis reputed to be on the marsh near Scovil. I have learned three new bird calls this year and am very proud of myself. Are you a twitcher/chaser? Jane

  4. Goo morning all: grey and cloudy in Island View — but what a nice painting with which to start the day! Also, sun or rain, the birds serenade us here too. Thank you for the compliment, Jane: I will try to merit it.

  5. Sniffle, sniffle yawn.. . . White-skinned human. Good morning Roger! Thanks for sharing Jane’s painting. I do not yet know the birds, but i have patience for this new language. Take care, @

    • Hi Allison. You are not quite awake. You have Roger and I thoroughly mixed. No problem, as long as you leave me his ability with languages and the beautiful turn of his words! Jane
