I forget to mow.
Volunteers
shoulder in
from every side.
Burnished trumpets of daylilies,
cerulean forget-me-nots,
pagodas of bugleweed
overtake green.
I forget to mow.

Thanks. Our place gets one mowing per year and only paths some years. I love the way the sensitive fern is gradually taking over the lawn!

I see I put a “no” in there~unintended! I have a patch of fern I keep egging on, here. I’m pretty close to declaring it a rake-free zone, too, in the fall. Mostly because I so hate to rake 🙂

Not mowing is a conservation ethic but also a way to avoid work! I like the wildness of the unmoved lawn.

That’s lovely, Jane. Great photos with it, too. Writing away a storm here … here’s hoping.

Sometimes I wish s/he wasn’t, Jane. I can’t stop writing and Clare is going crazy with my tapping rhythmic syllable counts on the table. Di two more this evening. I submitted your poem as one of my second portfolio poems. It will be interesting to see what others say.
