Gardening in my Veg-trugs

with 9 comments

In late May, I planted my Veg-trugs. Veg-trugs (available from Lee Valley Tools, Halifax) are small portable garden troughs perfect for a deck garden.

As you can see, all are up. The maple seeds around each plant will sprout and will take lots of time to remove.

I’ll update on progress as the summer unfolds.

All my best,

Jane

  1. That’s great. Wonderful idea and hopefully you’ll get a great harvest.

  2. That’s very appealing. I get overwhelmed even thinking about vegetable gardening. For one thing, the experts always seem to insist one plants dozens of kinds of plants. I feel myself tense up just thinking about seed trays and grow light s and …..This brings it all down to a scale I think I could handle! The maple seeds are sure a familiar problem.

    • I used to plant a huge garden but knees got in the way. Now what I do is very manageable … at a scale where I can use it to relax!

      • Smart. What I’m wondering is how to undo the big gardens I created when I was young and ambitious. Somewhere along the line I planted a native vine, thinking if it is native, surely it won’t cause a problem??? Ha! So now I spend my summers out there with a whip and chair trying to rein it in. It has eaten my mock orange, a rose of sharon and 2 hydrangeas, and is headed this way!

      • It all goes wild eventually. I planted a few things that have taken over. Should be a book called Invasion of the Invaders. My big garden is now a lawn, edged with current bushes, rhubarb, day lilies. Some of it was a pool for a few years and two young trees are planted there now. I love my Secret Lawn.

      • It sounds magical.
My plants had their own ideas of how my little garden would turn out. At first I panicked but I am beginning to relax. What the heck, right?
