Elf on the Shelf
~
My Elf on the Shelf has been with me since the 1960s. For many years, she stayed in a back corner in a bag with the other stuffed folk. Then, last year, I learned about the new popularity of the Elf on the Shelf.

Now, she has a place of honour among my Christmas decorations .. or should I say places? Each day, she pops up in a new place, to make her own commentary on the Christmas season!

What lovely decorations you have. 🙂 I made some clothespin decorations (from a kit) over forty years ago. They were all little figures with felt clothes and rickrack trimmings. My kids always loved putting them up. I don’t decorate anymore and gave the set to my son and his new wife. I noticed they did not put up the clothespin figures. LOL They have a beautiful tree and have made their own traditions. 🙂 And that is as it should be. 🙂 It doesn’t make mine any less special. 🙂

Hi. We have many home-made ornaments from years past. Many are just tucked away in storage but each year I decide to take something out to display. I remember making clothespin reindeer many years ago! Jane

I love the elf. The sun faded green clothing adds to it’s character–and makes it so special. I really dislike how many people buy new ornaments every year–and toss the old ones or sell them at a garage sale. I think that Christmas decorations are best when they have a story and have become part of the family tradition.

Hi Sheryl. My Elf was very under-appreciated in years past but now I am so glad she survived the purge. She has brought a lot of fun to our home these past two Christmases! I love the older ornaments! Jane
