    • Hi beebee. I read your poems and often think of you and your boy. But I also think of your joy at your grandchildren! Jane

  4. I love your pencil sketches-I used to do a lot of that. I bought a little sketch pad recently but have only used it once. Maybe it would help me to sketch more often.

    • Hi. When I sketch, it’s as if my hands do the work and I just watch. I think it’s good to let another part of your body do your thinking. If you do some sketching, I’d love to see it! Jane

  5. These pictures are so beautiful Jane. I did some pencil drawings recently which I though were ok but after seeing these mine look a bit childish!

    • Hi beebee. It does take a lot of time, but it is more about getting started. I try to keep a little sketch book with me everywhere I go. Jane

  7. these are wonderful drawings, they’re very upbeat. i particularly love that you label the berries as red and draw them in black and white. great work, maybe i should take up sketching again, these are really inspiring

    • Hi. Thanks! You have an eye for the relationship between ‘color’ and ‘black and white’… I see that from your photos. I tried adding color to my drawings, but I think it is more fun to try and create the impression of color. Jane

  10. I have a verbal comment from a reader who says that the sketch of the Viking ship ‘under a sliver-sun’ is shaded strangely (the moon is in the background, but the ship is lighted from the front). I have thought about this and have chosen the following explanation (lack of skill and carelessness not being choices). The drawing is meant to be the illustration for the inside of a card. When the card is folded in half, the shoreline becomes a cove, and the ship now sails toward the moon, making the shading perfect. Laugh, this is funny. Jane
