getting ready for fall – rose hips
~
Rose hips ripening … another painting towards my fall sale of books and paintings.
Along the road at our cabin is a small bush. Pink flowers in spring and plump rose hips in fall. Anyone who does cutting or roadwork at our cabin gets strict instructions not to disturb the rose bush!

Love the rose-hips: a luxurious, glossy orangey red!

Rose hips taste good too … my mom used to make teeny bottles of rose hip jam.

My grandparents used it for cough medicine, mixed with honey and I don’t know what else. The prescription vanished with my grandfather … but it always seemed to work.

Hi Barbara. Thanks. I am enjoying painting all these portraits of berries. This summer has been too hot and humid for me and painting these berries is definitely helping me to think of fall! Jane

Flowers in spring; rose hips in late summer – plants change with the seasons, and have different kinds of beauty as the seasons progress.

It’s like a lesson for humans … with age comes beauty to embrace.
