getting ready for Christmas #2 – a Christmas village

with 6 comments

I’m in a crafty mood today.  My inspiration came from Pinterest.

~

First I made some paper houses.  I copied a charming design from Pinterest and did a quick rendition with Paint.  Then I printed the house parts on cardstock, cut them out and glued them together.  The original design is shown at www.behance.net/gallery/Christmas-House/6431227 .

~

Then, using wire and rope, I made three ‘bottle-brush’ trees to go with the houses.  The method of making various versions of these trees is found at http://www.fynesdesigns.com/handmade-bottle-brush-trees-yarn-twine-garland-rope/ .  Mine are rather rustic-looking.

~

Then I added some Epsom salts for snow and I have my little Christmas village.

Christmas village

Christmas village – two of the houses and three trees – I’d like to add a little church and some sparkles on the trees

If you have never gone on Pinterest before, have a look at some of the Christmas decorations I have found in my explorations www.pinterest.com/jane4757/noel-2013/

    • Hi. Thanks! I think how strange it would be for me to celebrate Christmas, as you do, with no snow!! Jane

      • For a long time New Zealanders clung to the big hot Christmas dinner despite the heat. Now we tend to have barbeques at the beach

  2. A lovely Christmas village, Jane: so quaint; so rustic; so apropos – there being not a soul in sight! Perhaps they’ve all moved to the cities – off looking for handouts, stuck in some twice-around-the-block unemployment line; forced into dehumanizing subjugation from Oriental-supportive-craft-savvy consumers bent on saving 36 cents on a pair of pliers! Be a good girl.Don’t throw away your scraps. Why not make a donation of that length of left-over rope? At least they’ll go out happier – those now-desperate urban influxers; gaining a modicum of self-respect from knowing their noose has cost them nothing!
PS – Do you know if that made-in-China tool sale is still on at Can.Tire? I sure could use a super-cheap filter wrench: time to change the oil in my Mazda.

    • Hi Neil. Astute as always. There is great insight in what you say. I noted last year that all my village scenes never have a person in them! I have little human figures, but I keep them packed away. Sad, but the little humans just remind me of the real world, sometimes not so idyllic …… Jane
