a moment of beautiful – new friends

the space- a shelf in an antique store

the beautiful- creating a collection of two

~

I took a break from writing this week, to take a drive to the Woodstock area, for lunch with my husband and to check out any antique stores we saw.  We visited one store and I saw what I wanted the minute I walked in.

It was a little china salt and pepper shaker, a little Dutch boy, I think, from the bit of research I did on eBay.

He looked familiar, so I paid a dollar (a dollar!) and he came home with me.  At home, I was so happy to find that he ‘matches’ another little Dutch figurine I have had for a long time.   My figurine is not a salt and pepper shaker, but he is the same size and gloss.  My son would say they belong to the same ‘universe’.

It is so much fun to meet new friends.

    • Hi. They are side by side on the window ledge in my guest room. I keep an assortment of items there, to remind me of the window ledges in my grandfather’s porch. Jane

    • Hi. Breaks are great. They recharge the working parts! For me, antique stores are reserved for special times since I get a little out-of-control! Jane

  4. How wise to take a break from writing. Summer is so short, it’s best to enjoy it as much as possible. It’s delightful that you found treasures at the antique shop, and a bargain treasure at that.

    • Hi Carol. It is the hardest part about retiring and working at writing… I don’t know when to take a break. However, I did hang out my hammock… now if the bugs would just go on vacation too… Jane

  5. Congratulations to you…for giving into the moment and letting this little fellow steal your heart. I like what your friend says…about belonging to the same universe.

  6. A new treasure, what fun. My parents loved antiquing, loved it. That’s quite a change from looking at plants, Jane!

  9. Hi Jane, Don’t you just love it when you find the perfect thing in an antique shop? They match perfectly, like two little brothers!
